Plan your trip

Everything you need before you set off: how to get here, the weather at the lake, emergency numbers and where to charge an EV.

Getting here

Every route goes through Karditsa. From there, the lake is about 25 km away, a half-hour drive on a beautiful mountain road.

By car

25 minutes from Karditsa and an easy drive from Athens (3.5 h) or Thessaloniki (2.5 h). A car or motorcycle is also the easiest way to hop between villages.

By bus

KTEL coaches run to Karditsa from Athens and Thessaloniki. Local buses up to the lake are few, so check times before you travel.

By train

Take the train to Karditsa, usually changing at Palaiofarsalos, then continue by taxi or local bus.

At the lake

The lake road runs about 50 km all the way round. Taxis from Karditsa will take you to any village. Please book ahead for evenings.

Weather at the lake

Mountain climate: refreshing summers and snowy winter days. The lake is usually a few degrees cooler than Karditsa.
